VMscape™—Building customized virtual environments

ATCorp’s VMscape helps users construct heterogeneous networks of Xen hardware-assisted virtual machines (HVMs).

VMscape is comprised of three tools, which together greatly reduce the time and expertise required to build HVM networks for applications such as training, honeynets, sandboxes, and testbeds:

  • VMscape Architect™ is a GUI that lets users rapidly specify their network’s components, topology, and internal HVM configurations.
  • VMscape Foundry™ is a back-end that configures virtual machines, bridges, and creates the required configuration files and startup scripts.
  • VMscape Director™ is an interface for monitoring and controlling the virtual network using a unique visual presentation to assist in the user’s situational awareness.

VMscape works in conjunction with ATCorp's Exploit and Malware Incubator (EXAMIN) security toolkit, which provide monitoring and testing of software running inside VMscape environments. EXAMIN uses VM introspection, a new high-assurance technique, to detect stealthy malware such as rootkits inside VMs without relying on the integrity of the VM's operating system and without danger of infection.
