WIRE—Web service Interface Revision Environment

Services change for many reasons: security updates, new mission requirements, different data sets available, bug fixes, API improvements, policy changes, etc. The problem is that when services change, some dependent clients can break from incompatibilities.

It is common that SOA enterprises host many services that connect and communicate to each other on the same enterprise and/or remotely to other enterprises. As the number of services grows, the dependency and complexity also grows and it becomes more difficult to maintain services as they are revised.

WIRE is the first SOA version control system designed to efficiently manage version problems in a large distributed network of services. WIRE allows its users to:

  • Assess what clients will break before the revised service gets deployed by showing an up-to-date service dependency graph
  • Assess the current state of the system (e.g., what services are deployed/deprecated)
  • Notify dependent clients about new service versions via email, phone, or RSS feeds
  • Save metadata regarding the service as a whole and for each operation
  • View differences between service versions
